01  Month over month

Amazon carries the profit. Shopify’s slide since June was a decision, not a drop.

From June onward traffic was deliberately pointed at Amazon rather than the website, because Amazon converts far better on this product. The Shopify decline in the charts below is that redirect showing up, not demand falling away.

Profit per month
Amazon is net profit after PPC, FBA and referral fees, promos, refunds and COGS. Shopify profit is net sales less COGS — see method for what that leaves out.

02  Shopify sources

Half of every Shopify order still traces back to YouTube.

All 249 Shopify orders containing the cleanse were read individually and bucketed by the last non-direct UTM source on the order. YouTube accounts for 123 of them — 49% across the window, though its share has eased from 59% in May to 35% in August as overall Shopify volume was wound down.

The passive product shelf does most of the work — 86 of 123 orders. Description and pinned-comment links went from 16 orders in May to 1 in August, a steeper fall than the channel overall.

03  Amazon Attribution

Two tagged links point at this product on Amazon. Matthew’s converts twice as well.

Both tags carry a dedicated liver-cleanse ad group, so these figures are cleanse-only — not the whole product range. Both went live in June, so there is no March–May history to show.

A

Matthew’s links convert more than twice as well

3.6% of his clicks end in a cleanse order (31 of 868), against 1.7% for exploroproducts.com (46 of 2,784). The website sends three times the traffic for only 50% more orders.

B

The link sells far more than the product it points at

Those same 868 clicks produced 31 cleanse orders — but 96 Exploro orders in total, worth $2,049 gross. Most people who follow the cleanse link buy a test kit instead, or as well. Amazon paid $190 in Brand Referral Bonus on that traffic.

C

Tagged links explain a small slice of Amazon volume

Across June–August the two tags account for 77 of Amazon’s 2,958 cleanse orders. The rest comes from Amazon’s own search and sponsored placements — which is what the $21,169 of PPC is buying.

04  Method & caveats

How these numbers are built

Amazon — Sellerboard
ASIN B0FXLJPY6Y, the 60-count bottle, across Amazon.com, .ca and .com.mx. Net profit is Sellerboard’s figure: sales less promos, PPC, refunds and refund cost, Amazon fees and cost of goods.
Shopify — exploroproducts.com
SKU DC-MLCS-60-US. Net sales from Shopify Analytics (gross sales less discounts and returns), minus the $4.30 per-bottle cost recorded on the variant. Payment processing and shipping are not deducted, so Shopify profit sits slightly above the true contribution — and is not directly comparable to the Amazon net profit line.
Attribution — two sources
Shopify buckets come from reading each order’s last non-direct UTM source. “Untagged” means Shopify recorded a visit carrying no UTM parameters at all — Google, direct, Bing, ChatGPT and a number of orders with no journey data. Amazon figures come from the liver-cleanse ad group inside each Attribution tag, using the promoted-ASIN metric rather than the brand-wide default the console shows.
One thing to keep in mind
Untagged Shopify orders almost certainly include YouTube viewers who arrived without a tagged link, so the YouTube share is a floor rather than a ceiling.
